A 3 year old boy named Landon Riddle was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), and was told he had a mere 8 to 10 percent chance of surviving for more than a couple days at one point. Fortunately, Landon is alive and well. His mother attributes his speedy recovery, not so much to the chemotherapy, but to an alternative cannabis oil treatment.
“His whole chest was full of leukemia tumors, which is why he couldn’t breathe. They started him on chemo, but told us that he probably wasn’t going to make it,” said Landon’s mother, Sierra Riddle.
Following two months of treatment, Landon became sick and refrained from eating. His mother reported that Landon was vomiting up to 50 times per day. Doctors eventually lost hope, seeing no course to take other than chemotherapy. It was at this point in which Landon’s grandmother suggested Sierra give cannabis oil treatment a try.
“We discussed all of our concerns with his medical team in Utah and watched Landon continue to suffer and wither away as the piled on drug after drug,” Sierra said. “Then my mother came across cannabis oil online,” she added.
The family decided to leave the state of Utah for Colorado, where cannabis is legal.
“Our hearts were filled with joy that cannabis brought back the smile to Landon’s face. Landon started getting better and better! It was as if a miracle had happened! He was smiling again and started to eat again!” Sierra noted in her blog during Andrew’s cannabis oil treatment.
“It is atrocious that anyone on the planet would be charged for choosing cannabis over pharmaceuticals. My heart goes out to Adam Koessler and Rumor Rose, along with uncountable other families that are affected by cannabis prohibition. Get ready for the fight of your life. Having a sick child is a battle in itself, but making this choice is a whole new world. You’re going to need thick skin, intuition, and a solid team. Don’t waste time making sure every other pharmaceutical does more harm than good. If it feels wrong in your gut, it’s probably wrong,” she added.
Just days following the cannabis oil treatment, Landon showed signs of improvement. He ate more food and was vomiting less. Within months, Landon’s cancer went into remission.
While children with ALL have a 90 percent survival rate, London’s mother believes the cannabis oil didn’t just curb the side-effects of chemotherapy; it actually helped fight against Landon’s cancer cells.
Although Landon’s cancer went into remission, the family still has hurdles to overcome. In particular, Sierra was told that if she discontinued Landon’s chemo treatment, then her son would be taken away from her. A lawyer was willing to take on the case, arguing Landon’s mother was simply trying to look out for the best interests of her child.
In order to keep her child, Sierra agreed to continue Landon’s chemo treatment once a month alongside the cannabis oil treatment. Although the medical industry is finally starting to acknowledge the cancer-fighting benefits of cannabis oil, most doctors say it should only be used in conjunction with traditional chemo treatments. Sierra is still looking for an oncologist that will allow cannabis oil to substitute Landon’s chemotherapy altogether.
Despite Landon’s story, the American Cancer Society claims, “there is no available scientific evidence from controlled studies in humans that cannabinoids can cure or treat cancer.” This is in stark contrast to the insights of Dr. Julie Holland, editor of “The Pot Book,” who says, “It turns out, it actually fights the cancer itself.” Numerous studies have shown that cannabis compounds can help kill cancer cells in both mice and humans.
